OUR MISSION: To train and mentor the next generation of highly competent and humanistic emergency physicians focusing on serving the clinical needs of our community

Dear future Emergency Medicine Physicians,

Welcome from Baton Rouge!  We are proud to serve as chief residents for an incredible group of residents whom we hope you have the opportunity to meet.  Preparing for residency is an exciting yet nerve-wracking time, as there are so many different factors to consider during the application process.  We can honestly say that choosing to train at LSUHSC-BR was easily one of the best decisions we ever made.  We are fortunate to be surrounded by knowledgeable faculty, strong residents, and supportive nurses and staff here in Baton Rouge.

Our program provides a unique opportunity to work in a strong academic facility housed within the walls of a private hospital at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center.  In October of 2019, the doors opened at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, allowing us to care for children across the Gulf South and further enriching our pediatric experience.  We also rotate at Baton Rouge General Hospital where we have the opportunity to practice true community medicine.   Regardless of the location, our diverse patient population allows for exposure to a variety of presentations and pathologies.  Our residency program is dedicated to providing excellent patient care to the people of Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge provides not only a great place to train but also an exciting place to live.  As the capital of Louisiana, the “Red Stick” is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the heart of southern Louisiana.  Whether it’s cheering on the Tigers, exploring the many outdoor parks, or indulging in the culinary and music scenes, there is always something to do.

We would love to hear any questions you may have about the program, living in Baton Rouge, or about Emergency Medicine in general.  Please feel free to contact us.  We look forward to seeing y’all during the interview season!

Best regards,

Michael, Alicia, and Matt
