Option to buy plan. The basic life coverage is $5,000. Supplemental coverage of one and one-half times annual salary up to a maximum of $50,000 is also available.

DEFERRED COMPENSATION

Plan for tax-deferred savings and investments. Accumulated contributions plus investment earnings may be withdrawn at termination of service without any tax penalties. Applicable federal and state taxes must be paid on withdrawn funds. The funds may also be left on deposit with the plan and will continue to be invested on a tax-deferred basis.

FAQ

HOW ARE TRAUMAS RUN?

Traumas are run completely by EM residents. A PGY-2 EM resident manages the trauma service. When a trauma is activated, the trauma resident as well as 1-2 EM residents working in the ED meet in the trauma bay and run the resuscitation. EM residents manage the airway and complete all procedures. 

HOW MANY IN-HOUSE CALL MONTHS WILL I DO?

In the second year, there are 2 months of in-house call: 1 on MICU and 1 on Trauma ICU. In the third year, there is 1 month of MICU in-house call.

HOW MANY MEDICINE MONTHS WILL I COMPLETE?

We do a total of 4 medicine months in the ICU between Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOLRMC) and Baton Rouge General Medical Center (BRGMC). See Curriculum page for details. 

CAN RESIDENTS MOONLIGHT?

Yes PGY-3 residents who have their full license, are in good standing, and score above the 50th percentile on the inservice exam may moonlight.

DO YOU ACCEPT COMLEX SCORES IN PLACE OF STEP SCORES?

We will consider all applications that have either a USMLE step 1/2 score or COMLEX step 1/2 score.
