EMERGENCY MEDICINE
OUR
MISSION
to TRAIN and MENTOR
the next generation of highly competent and humanistic emergency physicians focused on serving the clinical needs of the community
FROM OUR CHIEFS
Dear future Emergency Medicine Physicians,
Welcome from Baton Rouge! We're so proud to serve as the 2020-2021 chief residents for an incredible group of people whom we hope you have the opportunity to meet. There have been many changes and hardships this year with the COVID pandemic. We know that applying to and preparing for residency is an exciting yet nerve-wracking time, even more-so now with the current environment and increased restrictions. Our priority is to ensure a safe and fair process in the next year for any hopeful EM applicants, and we are more than happy to answer any questions at any time.
We can honestly say that choosing to train at LSUHSC-BR was easily one of the best decisions we ever made. Our program provides a unique opportunity to work in a strong academic facility housed within the walls of a private hospital at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. In October of 2019, the doors opened at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, allowing us to care for children across the Gulf South and further enriching our pediatric experience. We also rotate at Baton Rouge General Hospital where we have the opportunity to practice true community medicine. Regardless of the location, our diverse patient population allows for exposure to a variety of presentations and pathologies. Our residency program is dedicated to providing excellent patient care to the people of Baton Rouge.
Baton Rouge provides not only a great place to train but also an exciting place to live. As the capital of Louisiana, the “Red Stick” is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the heart of southern Louisiana. Whether it’s cheering on the Tigers, exploring the many outdoor parks, or indulging in the culinary and music scenes, there is always something to do.
We'd love to hear any questions you may have about the program, living in Baton Rouge, or about emergency medicine in general. We look forward to working with you in the future!
