WHAT PEOPLE SAY

"The acuity and variety of patient encounters I’ve had make me feel comfortable knowing I’ll be prepared for anything that comes through the front door."

FROM OUR CHIFS

FROM OUR CHIEFS

Choosing to train at LSUHSC-BR was easily one of the best decisions we ever made.  In 3 short years, you will leave here prepared to practice emergency medicine in any environment. Our program provides a unique opportunity to work in a strong academic facility housed within the walls of the largest private hospital in Louisiana. Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center is a 988 bed hospital and home to the area’s only Adult and Pediatric Level I Trauma Center. We have more than 180,000 patient visits to our emergency departments per year, making us a top 10 program in the nation in number of patient visits. This gives us unparalleled exposure to a patient population with a large variety of pathologies.  Importantly, at all our training facilities the procedures in the emergency department and trauma bay are ours alone.  Through caring for patients here, you will meet the ACGME requirements multiple times over. We recognize the profoundness of this opportunity and take great pride in caring for this diverse population.

Baton Rouge provides not only a great place to train but also an exciting place to live. Our residents live within 5-15 minutes of our hospitals in safe, affordable and active areas of Baton Rouge.  As the capital of Louisiana, the “Red Stick” is located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the heart of southern Louisiana.  Whether it’s cheering on the Tigers, exploring the many outdoor parks, or indulging in the culinary and music scenes, there is always something to do.

We'd love to hear any questions you may have about the program, living in Baton Rouge, or about emergency medicine in general.  We look forward to meeting you!

Congratulations on moving forward with the next chapter of your medical career and applying for residency! We would like to offer a big welcome from Baton Rouge!  We feel so lucky to serve as the 2024-2025 chiefs for an incredible group of residents. We know that applying to residency is exciting but nerve-wracking. What we can say is we have felt incredibly supported by this program and our community during this time. Our priority is to extend that support to you. We strive to be transparent and fair in your application process. This program has a long tradition of supporting the success of all emergency medicine physicians, no matter where they go to residency. We are here for your questions and any advice we can offer.
